Clarification Issued on Report Concerning Supreme Court Review Order

A clarification has been issued regarding a report published by The New Indian Express on 10 November 2025 titled “SC dismisses Pavithra Gowda’s review plea in Renukaswamy murder case.”

The article stated that the Supreme Court had “warned” senior advocate Sidharth Luthra, appearing for the State of Karnataka, about alleged “five-star treatment” being provided to the accused.

It has now been confirmed that this attribution is incorrect. The review petitions were dismissed in chambers on 6 November 2025 without an open-court hearing and no notice was issued to the State. As a result, no counsel, including Mr. Luthra, appeared in the matter. The official order contains no remarks, observations or warnings directed at him.

The comments about custody conditions referred to in the news report actually originated from the Supreme Court’s 14 August 2025 hearing in which bail was cancelled. These observations were made in that earlier proceeding and not during the review petition.

The clarification emphasises that the two proceedings are distinct and merging them creates an inaccurate depiction of what transpired before the Court.
